I am NOT your leader.
My name is Beth McNamara, I live in Los Angeles, and I have never been in a cult, nor has anyone in my family — which means I do not have the lived experience of those who have. What I have done is spend the last seven years investigating the MOVE cult and, in the process, immersing myself in everything I could learn about cults. That journey has become a self-designed education — almost a PhD program in cults. Here, I uncover, question, and share what I’m still learning while I write a book about The Move Organization, or MOVE, for which I am a bonafide expert.

And definitely not like the “memoir” from the current self-proclaimed leader of MOVE, Mike Africa Jr.⬇️
For the rest of 2026 I will be focused on my book, but will pop in occasionally to share bonus research and analysis that won’t make the final edit.
In the meantime, you will find enough content already here to give you an idea of my research, point of view and personality when it comes to the subject of cults and especially about MOVE.
Professionally, I’m an Emmy-nominated TV, documentary and podcast writer/producer who loves to file FOIAs and track down sources.
